Since June 2014, when a few passionate people at Abram Ward Community Cooperative looked at the possibility of developing a framework of support, we’ve been working hard to continue that vision.
None of this could be done without the help and support of volunteers, fundraisers and donors from all around the Borough. It’s crucial that we continue to receive your support in order to grow the positive change we are now able to influence Borough-wide.
Every Bit of Support Makes a Difference
Whether it’s to support an individual in getting their community business idea off the ground, to help us provide business related materials or even business premises through the re-acquisition of disused buildings around the borough — there are many reasons that our Charity needs funds.
We’re always looking for fundraisers who are willing to do incredible things for the growth of the local economy and the benefit of the local community.
As Wigan and Leigh Community Charity, we will be hosting Annual Participatory Budgeting events, where we will donate funds to support new Social Economy organisations with seed funding to help them to Start Up.

As a trustee of Wigan & Leigh Community Charity, you’ll play a vital role in providing strategic oversight and governance — helping to guide the organisation and ensuring we remain true to our mission.
Your business has the benefit of experience, expertise and success. As such, it is immensely valuable to the people of Wigan Borough — people who aspire to start their own business journey.
We’re particularly keen to hear from people with a background in finance, law, community development, marketing, social enterprise or any other field that could strengthen our board.

- Typically 4–6 board meetings per year plus occasional working groups
- Full trustee induction and ongoing support provided

Give Your Time, Make a Difference
Volunteering with WLCC is a fantastic way to give back to your community, learn new skills and be part of something that’s making a real difference in Wigan and Leigh.
All of our Community Businesses are looking for volunteers to join, learn new skills and help make products that can be sold on our platform. There are roles to suit all skills and availability — from a few hours a month to more regular involvement.
Support via Match My Project
Match My Project is Wigan Council’s social value platform — connecting businesses that want to give back with voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) organisations across the Borough.
Community organisations like WLCC can post requests for support in the form of time, resources, training, funding and more. Businesses can then match these requests — ensuring their support goes exactly where it is needed, to community-led projects with a real impact.
It’s a simple, efficient way for businesses to fulfil their social value commitments while building genuine, lasting relationships with local organisations.
